Vern Cunningham has been awarded the 2024 Aurora Citizen of the Year Award!

What you may not know about Vern

Vern was on the Board of Directors of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce in the early 2000’s and in 2006 was Chair of the Business Achievements Awards.

All the while being President of his own successful business, Alutron Modules, Vern always found the time to volunteer for many organizations and to mentor several people in their own endeavours i.e., as an Ambassador for the York Region Small Business Enterprise Centre.

In his retirement, Vern joined the Optimist Club Of Aurora and is still an active member. He was President of the Probus Club of Aurora for 2 years and remains on the Executive Board as its Past President.

Vern is forever looking for ways to help others and was on the board of Bereaved Families of York Region and a member of the Hope House Hospice bereavement team.

More recently, in June 2022, Vern joined the Board of the Aurora Seniors Centre and quickly became Chair of the Fundraising Committee. In his first year, he raised over $15,000.00.

Vern is the driving force behind the Aurora Whiskey Society. Besides being a social outlet for whiskey enthusiasts, the group has raised funds that help support many associations in town, such as CHATS and the like.

Vern is a caring, compassionate individual who gives of himself selflessly and freely, expecting neither praise nor pats on the back in return. Others before self.
